BoG governor to appear before Parliament on March 5 over new HQ

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, is scheduled to appear before Parliament on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, to address concerns regarding the construction of the central bank’s new head office.

This follows a request from the Members of Parliament of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in August 2023 for detailed information on the project’s financing, cost, scope, and timelines.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga stated that the bank’s management will need to provide justifications for the construction of the new building.

“We have decided at the committee meeting that next week, Wednesday, we will invite the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as an independent constitutional body, to come to this house to brief us on the pricing of the new Bank of Ghana head office building.

“We want to know how the price variation took place, how quantities were, and the justification for the need for a new Bank of Ghana Headquarters,” he stated.

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, inaugurated the Bank Square, a newly built headquarters to house the bank’s new office.

The Bank Square combines innovative architecture with advanced technology, reflecting the central bank’s dedication to operational excellence and economic resilience.

The state-of-the-art facility is poised to enhance the BoG’s capacity to regulate and oversee Ghana’s evolving financial system effectively.

Former president Akufo-Addo emphasized that the new headquarters underscores Ghana’s commitment to modernizing its financial infrastructure to meet global standards and support sustainable economic development.
