Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, securing a commanding majority of votes cast by delegates nationwide.
According to the final declaration of results announced at the party’s national headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra, Dr. Bawumia polled 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 percent of total valid votes, to clinch the party’s flagbearer position.
He was followed by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who garnered 46,554 votes, equivalent to 23.76 percent, while Bryan Acheampong placed third with 36,303 votes, accounting for 18.53 percent of the ballots cast.
Yaw Osei Adutwum obtained 1,999 votes, representing 1.02 percent, while Kwabena Agyei Agyepong received 402 votes, translating into 0.21 percent.
In all, a total of 195,901 valid votes were recorded, with 561 ballots rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 196,462.
Dr. Bawumia’s victory officially makes him the NPP’s presidential candidate for the next general elections, as the party intensifies preparations toward the upcoming national contest.
