The Ghana Armed Forces will now be playing a more central role in the development of infrastructure in the country. This is part of efforts by the government to ensure the expertise of the men in uniform in fields such as engineering is harnessed to deal with the infrastructure gap.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah when he took his turn at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 21st, 2025.According to the minister, the now enhanced Defence Industries Holding Company board will ensure a transformed organization to lead in the reset agenda of the armed forces.
‘’I have asked the members of DIHOC to transform, talk and long probe into action and verifiable outcomes and place the Ghana Armed Forces at a Sustainable financial path through innovative enterprise models’ he revealed.
He stressed that, DIHOC represents a new era in Ghana’s development, with the armed forces serving as a key driver of industrialization. Operating under the expanded mandate of the ‘Reset Ghana Agenda’ DIHOC is tasked with building a resilient, industrialized economy that ensures food sovereignty, empowers citizens, and enhances Ghana’s global competitiveness.
The Ghana Armed Forces are expected to leverage their engineering expertise to support national infrastructure projects.
As part of the plan, the forces will collaborate with DIHOC to accelerate the construction of the six-lane Accra-Kumasi Expressway, a major project announced by President Mahama.
