The Volta Regional Campaign Manager for Engineer Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Ronald Fiakpui, has described the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary as a selfless politician whose participation in the party’s flagbearer race was driven by conviction rather than personal gain.
Speaking after the conclusion of the NPP flagbearer contest, Mr Fiakpui said Engineer Agyapong’s showing in the Volta Region reflected genuine grassroots support, not inducement. According to him, the aspirant secured a total of 43 votes across the region, including four votes from the Ho Central Constituency.
He explained that the votes cast in favour of Engineer Agyapong came from party members who believed in his vision and commitment to the ideals of the NPP, stressing that the campaign was not based on financial incentives.
“The 43 votes he obtained came from committed party members who believe we do not need money to induce delegates. Our campaign was built on raw belief and organic support for Kwabena Agyei Agyapong,” Mr Fiakpui stated.
He expressed appreciation to supporters who stood by the campaign despite limited resources, noting that their loyalty demonstrated integrity and dedication to the party’s values.
“I am grateful to everyone who supported us. We are happy he was part of the race and managed to secure four votes from Ho Central and 43 votes across the region,” he added.
Following the election of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer, Mr Fiakpui pledged the Volta campaign team’s full support to the party’s new leader ahead of the 2028 general elections. He described Engineer Agyapong as a unifier and peacemaker whose involvement in the contest helped strengthen internal party cohesion.
“Kwabena Agyei Agyapong is a unifier, and we will all unite behind Dr Bawumia to achieve victory in 2028,” he said.
The remarks underscore the NPP’s renewed call for unity as the party positions itself for the next phase of its political activities.
