The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has strongly dismissed allegations that he interfered with voters at a polling station in the Effutu Constituency.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Mr. Afenyo-Markin described the claims circulating on social media as “entirely false” and a deliberate attempt to distort facts surrounding the ongoing electoral process.
According to him, the allegations suggesting that he was present near a polling booth to influence voters and compromise ballot secrecy are baseless and form part of a series of schemes allegedly orchestrated by his political adversaries since the start of the flagbearer contest.
He recalled a previous incident where a manipulated video was circulated to falsely suggest that he refused to applaud a candidate during the signing of a peace pact held at the Alisa Hotel on January 22, 2026, describing such actions as desperate and misleading.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin stressed that throughout the process, he has strictly adhered to all Electoral Commission (EC) regulations and party guidelines, insisting that at no point was he anywhere near the voting area as alleged.
He explained that his presence in the constituency was limited to exercising his franchise and undertaking lawful oversight in full compliance with electoral rules, adding that he has not engaged in any conduct that could be interpreted as undue influence.
The Minority Leader called on the EC, security agencies and all political actors to prioritize peace, transparency and the integrity of Ghana’s democracy, warning that false allegations only serve to undermine voter confidence.
He also invited journalists, observers and members of the public to independently verify the facts on the ground in Winneba, noting that truth and transparency remain the strongest safeguards against misinformation.
