Pool phase pressure builds as decisive matches approach

The Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship enters a निर्णsing stage on Friday, April 17, as Day 5 fixtures are set to shape qualification from the pool phase at the Ahly Hall in Cairo.

With only a handful of matches left before the knockout rounds, teams across all pools are under mounting pressure to secure vital wins and improve their standings.

Hosts AHL will return to Ahly Hall 1 at 19:00 local time to face Ivory Coast’s OMD in a key Pool A encounter. Backed by strong home support and momentum from a commanding straight-sets victory over Cameroon’s MKE, AHL will be aiming to consolidate their position at the top of the group.

Pool B promises intense action, beginning with a crucial clash between DR Congo’s VCL and Ghana’s KSC at 14:00 in Hall 1. Both sides are seeking to bounce back after disappointing results on Thursday, making the contest pivotal for their qualification hopes. Later, Kenya’s KPC will take on Senegal’s SOC at 17:00 in Hall 2 in a tactical battle that pits KPC’s defensive strength against SOC’s attacking efficiency.

Kenyan clubs are set to play a prominent role throughout the day. DCI opens proceedings at 13:00 against Nigeria’s NCS in Pool C, looking to build on their convincing win over VLA. In Pool D, KCB faces Cameroon’s LTV at 16:00, hoping to maintain their strong form following a dominant performance against Seychelles’ ARS.

Other fixtures carry equally high stakes. Uganda’s KCC will meet DR Congo’s VLA at 15:00 in Pool C, while Nigeria’s VPC takes on Seychelles’ ARS at 19:00 in Pool D. Both matches are expected to have significant implications for progression to the next round.

As the pool phase draws to a close, the margin for error has all but disappeared. Every set, and indeed every point, could prove decisive in determining which teams advance.

With the competition intensifying, attention remains firmly on Cairo, where clubs from across the continent are battling not just for victory, but for survival in the championship.
