The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has ordered an immediate audit of all health facilities in the Oti Region as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes.
The directive was issued following a three-day working visit to the region, during which the minister engaged health professionals, traditional authorities, local government officials, and other key stakeholders.
According to the minister, the audit will assess the state of infrastructure, staffing levels, availability of essential equipment, and overall service delivery across public health facilities in the region.
Mr. Akandoh stressed the need to properly integrate health workers into the system and ensure they receive the necessary support to perform effectively, noting that unresolved challenges continue to affect health indicators in the region.
He disclosed that a technical advisory team will lead the audit exercise in collaboration with regional and local stakeholders to identify gaps and recommend practical solutions.
The health minister further directed the formation of small committees involving chiefs, regional and local authorities to determine what interventions central government and local communities can undertake to address the challenges.
He expressed optimism that the findings from the audit would guide policy decisions and targeted investments aimed at strengthening healthcare services in the Oti Region.
Mr. Akandoh emphasized that the current situation must change, adding that the ministry is committed to turning around the region’s health outcomes within the shortest possible time.
