Nigerian star Davido misses out on Grammy trophy

Nigerian music icon Davido failed to secure a win at the 2026 Grammy Awards, despite being among the top contenders in the Best African Music Performance category at the ceremony held in Los Angeles.

Davido was nominated for his collaboration “With You” featuring Omah Lay, a song that enjoyed massive commercial success and strong international reception in the year under review.

The award eventually went to South African singer Tyla, who edged out Davido, Burna Boy and Ayra Starr in a highly competitive category that continues to spotlight Africa’s growing influence on the global music scene.

The loss extends Davido’s run of Grammy nominations without a win, even as he remains one of Africa’s most streamed and internationally recognised artists, with sold-out tours and chart-topping releases worldwide.

Fans of the singer took to social media to express mixed reactions, with some voicing disappointment while others praised his continued global relevance and consistency at the highest level of music recognition.

Despite missing out on the trophy, industry observers say Davido’s repeated Grammy nominations underline his impact and longevity, reinforcing his status as a key figure in the global expansion of Afrobeats.
