Residents of Metsrikasa and surrounding communities in the Akatsi North District are set to benefit from improved healthcare delivery following the commencement of construction of an ultra-modern health centre in the area.
A sod-cutting ceremony to mark the start of the project was led by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, in the company of the Akatsi North District Chief Executive, Bless Katamani Kojo, and the Member of Parliament for the area, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe.
The health facility, when completed, is expected to serve a population of over 2,000 people and significantly reduce the burden on residents who currently travel long distances to Dzodze and Ave Dakpa to access medical care.
Metsrikasa and its surrounding communities have existed since the 1950s without a health facility, relying largely on neighbouring towns for basic healthcare services. The new project is therefore expected to address a long-standing challenge and improve access to quality healthcare in the district.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Akatsi North District Health Director, Timothy Asam Mahama, said the project is expected to be completed within three months. He noted that the facility would enhance healthcare access and outcomes for residents. He also appealed to government and the Ministry of Health to fast-track the completion of the Agenda 111 Hospital project in the district, which he said is about 85 per cent complete.
The District Chief Executive, Bless Katamani Kojo, highlighted several ongoing development initiatives being undertaken by the district assembly and reaffirmed his commitment to improving the living standards of residents. He assured the people of Akatsi North of his dedication to meeting their development needs.
For his part, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, pledged the support of the Regional Coordinating Council to ensure the completion of abandoned projects in the district. He further indicated that he would engage the Minister of Health to facilitate the commissioning of the Agenda 111 Hospital to fully meet the healthcare needs of the area.
As part of his visit to the district, the Regional Minister and his delegation also cut sod for additional development projects and commissioned an ultra-modern school facility for the people of Agormor in the Akatsi North District.
