GAF labels reports on HIV-positive applicants fake

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed as false media reports claiming that about 60 per cent of applicants who underwent recent military medical screening tested HIV positive.

In a press release issued on January 25, 2026, the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp, described the publication as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard it entirely.

According to the statement, the medical screening process for applicants is still ongoing and no official results have been declared. GAF stressed that any figures being circulated in the media do not emanate from the Armed Forces.

The military authorities further indicated that steps are being taken to trace the originators of what they described as a mischievous and misleading story, with a view to taking appropriate action.

The Ghana Armed Forces also cautioned media practitioners, content creators, bloggers and vloggers to be circumspect and to crosscheck their facts before publishing, to avoid the spread of misinformation.

The statement was signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, and copied to all media houses for publication.
