AI education tool pilot not excluding Ga, Adangbe — Ministry

The Ministry of Education has clarified that the ongoing pilot phase of the Artificial Intelligence (AI)–powered education tool is not intended to exclude the Ga and Adangbe languages, assuring the public of a broader, inclusive rollout after initial testing.

In a statement issued on Saturday, January 24, 2026, the Ministry said it had taken note of concerns raised by members of the Ga and Adangbe communities over the perceived exclusion of their languages from the proposed collaboration between the Ministry and Google.

According to the Ministry, the selection of four Ghanaian languages announced earlier by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, is strictly on a pilot basis and does not represent a final decision on language inclusion.

“The pilot phase is intended to test the efficacy, adaptability and educational impact of the AI learning tool before its gradual scale-up and nationwide implementation,” the statement explained.

The Ministry stressed that the initiative is designed to be inclusive and that, upon successful completion and evaluation of the pilot phase, the programme will be expanded to cover all twelve approved Ghanaian languages.

It added that the expanded phase will explicitly include Ga and Adangbe, noting that at no point is the pilot intended to marginalise or permanently exclude any linguistic or cultural group in the country.

Reaffirming its commitment to equity, the Ministry said it deeply values Ghana’s linguistic diversity and remains dedicated to ensuring fair representation and access in all national education initiatives, particularly those leveraging emerging technologies.

The statement further indicated that the use of AI in education is aimed at enhancing learning outcomes and improving access to quality education across the country.

The Ministry also expressed its readiness to engage with stakeholders, traditional authorities and communities nationwide as Ghana moves towards a more inclusive, technology-driven education system.

The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary to the Minister for Education.
