The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a violent attack on police officers at Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, when a patrol team from the Jacobu District Police Command was assaulted while carrying out routine patrol duties at Bepotenten Sukuum.
According to the police, officers had earlier recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and directed him to inform the owner of the firearm to report to the police station with the necessary documentation.
While returning from the patrol, the team was confronted by a large crowd of about 100 civilians who blocked the road. The group, reportedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle.
In the ensuing confrontation, the individual who took the service weapon was shot by the police, while another assailant sustained injuries. The service rifle was later successfully retrieved by the officers.
The injured individuals were given medical attention, and the situation was brought under control, the police said.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and cautioned the public against assaulting law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
Police have assured the public that all persons involved in the attack will be identified, pursued, and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.
