The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP) is set to hold a press conference on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to present an in-depth analysis of the controversial GH¢2 billion claim involving Bawa Rock Company Limited and the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
The press conference, themed “Bawa Rock, GoldBod, and the ¢2 Billion Claim: Fact or Fiction?”, will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Ghana Accra International Press Centre (GiPC). It is expected to draw participation from media practitioners, civil society actors, policy analysts, and members of the general public.
IERPP says the engagement forms part of its mandate to promote evidence-based public discourse and policy accountability, particularly on issues with significant financial and governance implications for the state. The institute notes that the GH¢2 billion claim has sparked intense public debate, conflicting narratives, and growing concerns about transparency.
At the event, IERPP researchers and policy analysts are expected to present findings examining the basis of the claim, the contractual and institutional framework governing the relationship between Bawa Rock Company Limited and GoldBod, and the potential fiscal exposure to the state.
The institute will also assess whether the GH¢2 billion claim is supported by verifiable evidence or whether it has been exaggerated or misrepresented in public discussions. According to IERPP, claims of such magnitude must be subjected to rigorous economic and policy scrutiny to safeguard public finances and investor confidence.
IERPP emphasised that its analysis is nonpartisan and grounded strictly in data, established policy principles, and objective economic assessment. The goal, it said, is to bring clarity to an issue that has been marked by uncertainty and speculation.
The institute expressed confidence that the engagement will contribute meaningfully to informed national discourse by separating fact from speculation and reinforcing standards of transparency and accountability in public economic decision-making.
