The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pusiga District in the Upper East Region, Hon. Abdul Rahim Aguri Haruna, has distributed goats and cash totaling GHC338,000 to 118 selected persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the district.
The intervention, funded through the district’s 5 per cent share of the District Assemblies Common Fund, forms part of efforts to reduce poverty and promote economic empowerment among vulnerable groups, in line with Millennium Development Goal One.
The beneficiaries, made up of 61 males and 57 females, received a combination of cash, livestock and other essential items to support income-generating activities and improve their livelihoods.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Haruna emphasized that the selection process was conducted fairly and without political consideration. He stressed that all persons living with disabilities in the district are eligible to benefit from the support, regardless of their political affiliation.
He commended the Department of Social Welfare, key stakeholders, media partners and constituency executives for their contributions toward the successful organization of the programme.
The DCE urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the resources provided, expressing confidence that the support would lead to sustainable livelihoods and a brighter future for recipients.
The annual initiative underscores the Pusiga District Assembly’s commitment to inclusivity and the empowerment of vulnerable groups within the district.
