Violent clash at Bolgatanga SHS leaves students injured

A violent clash between youth from the Winkogo community and students of Bolgatanga Senior High School (BIG BOSS) has left several students injured, with about 13 female students hospitalized.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, January 15, 2026, between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm on the school premises. According to sources, the disturbance began when three youths from the Winkogo community allegedly entered the campus and behaved disorderly around the Science Block and Dining Hall areas.

An attempt to restore calm reportedly led to one of the intruders physically attacking a tutor, triggering a confrontation between the students and the youths. The situation later escalated when two of the suspects fled the scene and returned with reinforcements, allegedly pelting stones near the Dining Hall, Girls’ Dormitory, and staff bungalows.

The ensuing chaos caused panic among students, resulting in about 13 female students collapsing, while one male student sustained injuries during the clash.

School authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while the police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violent confrontation.
