Ghana ambassador confirms Sedina Tamakloe’s detention in United States

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has confirmed the detention of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mrs Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, in the United States.

In an official press statement dated January 15, 2026, the Ambassador disclosed that Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center in Pahrump, Nevada.

According to the statement, Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by the United States Marshals on January 6, 2026, and has since been kept in detention at the facility located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue.

Ambassador Smith explained that the arrest was carried out pursuant to an extradition request submitted by the Government of Ghana to US authorities in July 2024. The request relates to ongoing legal proceedings involving the former MASLOC boss in Ghana.

“I am reliably informed that acting on an extradition request sent to the US authorities sometime in July 2024, US Marshals arrested Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu and placed her in detention to await her day in court,” the statement noted.

The Ambassador further stated that Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu remains in custody pending court proceedings in the United States, which will determine the next steps regarding the extradition process.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration is expected to continue engaging relevant US authorities as the legal process unfolds.
