Central Health Directorate visits Akoti Health Centre after assault

The Central Regional Health Directorate has paid a working visit to the Akoti Health Centre in the Assin Fosu Municipality following a reported assault incident at the facility.

The visit was led by the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Mrs. Aberta A. Biritwum-Nyarko, accompanied by the Deputy Director in charge of Clinical Care, Dr. Mrs. Agnes A. Anane. They were joined by the Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr. Benjamin Amoako.

During the engagement, management interacted with staff of the facility and received a detailed briefing on the circumstances surrounding the incident. Dr. Mrs. Biritwum-Nyarko conveyed the sympathy of the Regional Health Directorate and the Ghana Health Service Headquarters to staff who were affected by the incident.

She commended the health workers for their professionalism and swift response in attending to the injured despite the tense situation, noting that no staff member sustained injuries during the incident.

The visit also revealed security gaps at the facility, prompting management to call for strengthened collaboration with the Ghana Police Service to enhance the safety and security of both staff and clients.

Staff were reassured of management’s full support as steps are being taken to prevent a recurrence. Service delivery at the Akoti Health Centre has since returned to normal, with additional preventive measures being pursued.
