The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused President John Dramani Mahama of betraying the trust of Ghanaian youth one year into his administration, describing his performance as disappointing and deceptive.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 12, 2026, and signed by its National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha, the group said young Ghanaians voted massively for President Mahama in the hope that his campaign promises particularly on job creation would be fulfilled.
According to the NPP Youth Wing, the much-touted 24-hour economy, which was presented as a solution to youth unemployment through a “one job, three shifts, three people” formula, has failed to materialise one year after the President assumed office. The group described the policy as a “scam” that has left the youth frustrated and desperate.
The statement cited the recent stampede at the El-Wak Stadium, which led to the death of six young women seeking enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces, as evidence of the growing desperation among unemployed youth. It warned that continued deception could trigger serious civil and political unrest.
While acknowledging some gains in macroeconomic stability, including a stable foreign exchange regime and single-digit inflation, the NPP Youth Wing graded the President four out of ten for his overall performance, arguing that the high cost of living continues to worsen conditions for young people.
The group further criticised the government for prioritising the purchase of a presidential jet over granting financial clearance to trained nurses and teachers, many of whom remain unemployed. It also accused the President of overseeing the dismissal of over 13,000 young workers and abandoning key youth-focused promises, including the training of one million coders.
The NPP Youth Wing concluded by accusing the Mahama administration of political persecution and weakening democratic institutions, insisting that the youth feel used to gain power and abandoned afterward. It called on the President to honour his promises and realign his RESET agenda with the needs of young Ghanaians.
