A 26-year-old man, Barron Guda, popularly known as “Efutu,” has been burnt to death in a suspected arson attack at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, January 8, 2026, when fire engulfed his wooden ghetto structure. His body was discovered burnt beyond recognition after personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the police responded to a distress call from residents around 7:00 a.m.
Residents who spoke to Channel 247 News correspondent Yaw Boagyan suspect foul play. According to them, some mechanics operating in the area had earlier threatened to burn Efutu alive or eject him from the structure, accusing him of stealing items from their workshops.
“It’s no surprise. The fitters warned they would burn him or drive him out. That’s why we believe they intentionally set the place on fire,” a resident alleged.
However, other residents offered a different account, suggesting the fire may have been accidental. They claimed the deceased was seen earlier behaving erratically while smoking, raising suspicions that a cigarette could have sparked the blaze.
The body has since been deposited at the Assin Fosu St. Xavier Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
Meanwhile, the case has been reported to the Assin Fosu Police Command for investigations. No arrests have been made so far.
