The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has urged citizens to boldly speak against injustice and uphold moral values in both public and private life.
She made the call while addressing participants at the 93rd Annual National Convention (Jalsa Salana) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, held at Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region.
The convention brought together Ahmadi Muslims from all 16 regions of Ghana, as well as dignitaries from neighbouring countries. Members of the Ansarullah and Lajna wings were clad in white attire, while the Khuddam youth wing appeared in black and white.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang cautioned public sector workers against placing personal interests above national service, stressing that moral courage and ethical consistency are key to national development.
“A nation is strengthened by moral courage and ethical consistency. As citizens, we serve our country when we stand for what is right, speak against injustice, and uphold values in both public and private life,” she stated, adding that government must also operate within this moral framework.
The Ameer and Missionary-in-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Alhaji Maulvi Noor Mohammed Bin Salih, called for unity and mutual respect between Muslims and Christians, urging both faiths to work together to preserve Ghana’s long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence.
He noted that recent tensions pose a threat to the harmonious relationship enjoyed by Christians and Muslims over the decades, stressing that Muslims in Ghana harbour no hatred or ill will towards their Christian counterparts.
Touching on the theme of the convention, “Moral Decadence and Our Responsibilities in the Light of Islamic Teachings,” the Ameer said the ultimate remedy to moral decline lies in the teachings of the Holy Quran and the example of Prophet Muhammad.
According to him, adherence to the Quran and Sunnah has the power to transform society and restore ethical values that promote peace, tolerance and national cohesion.
