Roads Minister Warns Against Shoddy Work, Vows Accountability in Road Projects

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, has issued a stern warning to contractors, consultants, and ministry officials involved in the execution of road projects, declaring that substandard work will not be tolerated.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series held Wednesday,July 30th at the Jubilee House in Accra, the minister stressed that the Ministry will impose strict sanctions on individuals or firms responsible for failed or unverified roadworks.

“We will not allow shoddy work to go unpunished,” Hon. Agbodza stated. “Contractors, consultants, and even ministry officials who fail to deliver or supervise quality projects will be held accountable. Bonds will be cashed, insurance policies enforced, and surcharges applied where necessary.”

He emphasized the importance of ensuring value for money, adding that stronger monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are being put in place to guarantee that all road projects across the country meet national standards.

Hon. Agbodza also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to building roads that are durable, safe, and accessible, noting that quality assurance and timely completion are now top priorities under his leadership.

The Minister also disclosed that government  is working on rolling out the digital road tolls system to raise more revenue to help fix broken down roads. According to him, there will not be physical structures to ensure that there are no barriers to create traffic congestions at various locations in the country.

The Government Accountability Series was introduced to provide a platform for ministries and government agencies to brief the nation on their activities. So far 7 ministers have used the platform to spell out their plans and what they are doing since the government took over on January 7th, 2025.
