Former Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, has taken a swipe at the Finance Minister, questioning his continued delay in releasing critical funds to support security operations across the country.
Speaking in Parliament, Nitiwul asked pointedly, “Why is the Minister for Finance refusing to release money to the people? Why?” He emphasised the need for immediate financial support to sustain key security initiatives, including Operation Conqueror’s Fist and others involving the military, police, and immigration services.
According to the former Defence Minister, the least the Finance Minister can do is release funds to the Defence Ministry to ensure that commanders on the ground are adequately resourced to maintain peace and stability.
“I can tell you that the professionalism of the Ghana Armed Forces, the Police Service, and our other security agencies is top-notch. The whole world knows this,” he stated. “But without resources, they cannot do the job.”
Nitiwul underscored that it is the fundamental duty of any government to ensure that its security services are equipped, financed, and supported to protect lives and property.
