Galamsey Fight: It Will Take NPP To Come And Implement Blueprint- Dr. Krugu

The former Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Authority, Dr. John Kingsley Krugu has expressed doubts about the NDC government’s commitment to dealing with the illegal mining menace in the country. According to him, illegal mining has worsened under in the last six months and that those who accused the Akufo-Addo led administration of not doing enough to combat the menace are now silent.

Speaking exclusively to Channel247 TV on the sidelines of the Annual Delegates Conference of the NPP in Accra, Dr. Krugu said, ”if you look at it right now, galamsey is worse than before. I think what is happening is that, I see a certain political decision to say, let us do as much we can before take a serious decision on it. Because the very people who were on the rooftops shouting that there should be a State of Emergency in certain parts that galamsey has become endemic, today they are the ones superintending over the biggest magnitude of galamsey we have ever seen”.

”It has caused even the Attorney General to have to  issue a public statement statement”, he stressed.

Dr. Krugu accused President John Mahama of not being sincere with his comments on fighting galamsey while he was campaigning to lead the country. ” Why haven’t we seen a single state of emergency, at least  for the regions of the Western Region, Western North, central region, Ashanti Region, those places that galamsey is so endemic. Most of the key things the president said, it is clear that it was all about politics”, he opined.

BLUEPRINT FOR FIGHTING GALAMSEY

The former EPA boss insisted that posterity will be kind to former President Nana Akufo-Addo, ”I have said it over and over, posterity will judge His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuko-Addo favourably, because he made us to work hard to produce a blueprint.  I have said it that if President Mahama means business in fighting galamsey, the blueprint is lying there, he should take it and implement it”, he charged.
