Education: Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund To Focus More on Vocational and Technical Training

The Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund founded by former Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. John Kingsley Krugu and his wife to support brilliant but needy students in the Bawku West district will in its next round of support, focus on Vocational and Technical Education.

The fund in the last two years focused on supporting first year students entering tertiary institutions to pay their admission fees but has now decided to pay attention to supporting young people in the acquisition of technical and vocational skills.

A statement issued by Butt-Tis Buuri revealed that, the decision which was taken at the last board meeting is partly influenced by the government’s  of fee-free first year  policy. The statement also revealed that 140 students benefited from the fund in the last two years of its operations.

MOTIVATION FOR 2025 BECE CANDIDATES

As part of its desire to continue to support the education of children in the Bawku West District, the fund also announced a special package for candidates taking the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination.

According to the fund, it will offer scholarship for six of the most disadvantaged candidates comprising 3 top needy girls and 3 top needy boys when the results are released to help them as they begin their secondary education journey. This will be done in collaboration with the District Directorate of Education.

The patrons expressed appreciation to the board for the role they played in ensuring the fund became operational and disclosed that the new Board of Trustees will soon be announced.

ABOUT BUTT-TIS BUURI SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization that provides financial support for talented yet
underprivileged students from the Bawku West District to access tertiary, vocational, and apprenticeship
training. We aim to enhance access to education, skills training, and financial services for young individuals who
require assistance. Our Scholarship Fund was established on 4th June, 2022 by Dr. John Kingsley Krugu to
commemorate his birthday. After conversing with tertiary students from the Kusaug Toende area, Dr. Krugu
recognized that many faced multifaceted challenges remaining in school due to financial difficulties. Drawing
from his experiences overcoming obstacles to access tertiary education, he established this fund to assist young
people in realizing their full potential.
