Armed men allegedly invade Peter Amewu’s residence in Hohoe

Unknown men carrying guns in the name of National security allegedly invaded the house of former Member of Parliament, John Peter Amewu in Hohoe.

The assailants, who identified themselves as bailiffs, claimed they were acting on “orders from above” and alleged that Mr Amewu had not been properly elected as an MP during the 2020 elections.

At the time of the Wednesday incident, Mr Amewu was not at home, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding the attack.

An eyewitness recounted that the intruders insisted they were there to serve him a notice, stating that his election in 2020 was invalid. They also questioned the constitutional validity of the C.I. (Constitutional Instrument) governing the election process.

“They said they were there to serve me a notice because I was not duly elected in 2020, hence their decision to serve me. And that the C.I. was not constitutional,” Mr Amewu told Citi News.

Mr Amewu expressed concern over the incident, questioning the state of Ghana’s democratic practices. He confirmed that his supporters in Hohoe had already reported the matter to the police.

Despite the alarming situation, Mr Amewu has opted to decline any police protection.

During the raid, the gunmen reportedly fired warning shots, leading to a brief confrontation with some of Mr Amewu’s supporters who had gathered at the scene.
