Pooley’s murder: Bechem United offers GH₵100,000 reward for suspect’s arrest

Bechem United FC has condemned the recent violent attack that led to the death of Kotoko FC supporter Francis ‘Nana Pooley’ Frimpong. The club has announced a GH₵100,000 reward for anyone with credible information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

In a statement issued on February 19, 2025, the club’s management, led by Dr Kingsley Owusu Achau, expressed sorrow over the incident and reaffirmed its stance against hooliganism in Ghanaian football.

Dr Achau, a regular presence at league matches, is now under pressure from his family to reconsider his travels with the team due to safety concerns.

Despite this, Bechem United FC says it remains committed to maintaining security, fairness, and discipline in the sport.

The club’s leadership has vowed to take a strong stance against hooliganism, recalling past violent incidents in Ghanaian football, including the May 9th Stadium Disaster and a previous clash between Bechem United and B.A. United.

“Enough is enough. The time to say NO to hooliganism is NOW,” the statement read.

To improve safety at their home ground, the club has engaged an expert to install CCTV cameras at the stadium to monitor and deter violent behaviour.

It has also warned that any supporter involved in hooliganism will face a lifetime ban from attending the club’s matches.

Bechem United FC is calling on law enforcement agencies, football administrators, supporters, and the general public to assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The club has also urged other stakeholders to support efforts to improve safety at football venues.

Supporters and the public have been encouraged to provide any information that could help authorities track down the suspect.

Bechem United FC says it remains committed to restoring order at football venues and protecting the integrity of the sport in Ghana.
