Bernard Ahiafor chairs Parliament’s Appointment committee

Parliament has approved the composition of its Appointments Committee, which is tasked with vetting and recommending nominees for ministerial and other key appointments.

The Committee will be chaired by the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah serving as Vice Chairperson.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has been appointed as the Ranking Member, while Patricia Appiagyei will serve as the Deputy Ranking Member.

The Appointments Committee is responsible for scrutinizing and recommending to Parliament the approval or otherwise of persons nominated by the President for appointment as Ministers of State, their Deputies, and other positions specified under the Constitution or relevant legislation.

The Majority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson speaking on the report of the committee on the composition of the appointment committee in Parliament on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, noted that “The committee respectfully recommends to the house to adopt this report and approve the membership of the appointment and business committee as composed and recomposition of the committees of selection based on the ratio of 183 to 88. Mister Speaker, I shall submit.”
