Sammy Crabbe: I will contest for NPP national chairman position in 2026

A former Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe has called for significant constitutional reforms within the NPP, arguing that its current structure fails to adequately address the welfare of its members and stakeholders.

In an interview with Joy News aired on December 27, 2024, Sammy Crabbe criticised the lack of a “duty of care” in the NPP and said there was no provision in its constitution to address that.

He announced his intention to contest the party’s national chairmanship in 2026.

“It’s a problem when an organisation has 28 aims and objectives, yet none addresses how it will reward or take care of its members and stakeholders,” Mr Crabbe said.

He emphasised the need for a comprehensive re-engineering of the party’s constitution, citing the intense sacrifices made by members, including financial investments and personal tolls, which often go unacknowledged.

Mr Crabbe argued that more needs to be done to ensure the welfare of members, suggesting that apathy among the rank and file stems from feelings of neglect.

“There’s apathy because people feel sidelined after contributing so much. It doesn’t make sense that decisions affecting everyone are made by one man, his wife, and his family,” Mr Crabbe said.

Sammy Crabbe revealed plans to convene a constitutional amendment conference if elected chairman, adding that the recent challenges within the party have underscored the urgency of his proposals.

“People now see the reason why these changes must be made. The apathy we’ve seen in the party is a direct result of members feeling sidelined and unappreciated,” he noted.

Mr Crabbe who was suspended in 2015 over allegations of misconduct and subsequently removed from office, expressed confidence in his campaign, saying his groundwork is progressing well.

He acknowledged that not everyone may agree with his ideas but stressed the importance of constructive criticism.

“It’s not necessary for everyone to like me. What matters is putting forward ideas that can help the party evolve. I welcome criticism as long as it focuses on what I propose,” Mr Crabbe stated.
