Three dead, 20 injured in Gomoa Okyereko Highway accident

Three people lost their lives instantly, while 20 others sustained critical injuries and are receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital following a collision between a Sprinter Benz bus and a Hyundai Grace on the Gomoa Okyereko stretch of the Kasoa-Winneba highway.

According to Citi News sources, the Sprinter bus, registered as GW 5477-24, was travelling from Winneba to Kasoa, while the Hyundai Grace, registered as GR 5899-22, was headed in the opposite direction.

Municipal Fire Officer for Winneba, DO 2 Frederick Adu-Poku, explained to the media that the accident occurred due to wrongful overtaking by the Sprinter bus, resulting in a head-on collision.

DO 2 Adu-Poku also warned commercial drivers to exercise caution and avoid speeding on the stretch, especially as the festive season approaches.

“We want this to go to all the drivers. We want them to be patient. This accident that happened this morning could have been avoided if this man had taken his time for the driver in front of him to go.

“This accident would have been avoided. We want them to understand that, in fact, there are laws in Ghana, there are laws on the road, and we want them to go by the laws.”
