Comac calls for fair and uniform tax administration

The Coalition of Micro and Small-Scale Enterprises Association of Ghana (COMAC) has called on government and tax authorities to ensure fairness, consistency and uniformity in the administration of taxes across all sectors of the economy.

In a press release, COMAC expressed concern over what it described as selective and inconsistent tax enforcement, which it said places an unfair burden on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

The coalition noted that while some businesses are rigorously monitored and taxed, others operate with little or no scrutiny, creating an uneven playing field.

COMAC stressed that uniform tax administration is critical to building trust between taxpayers and the state, improving voluntary compliance and supporting sustainable economic growth.

According to the group, perceived inequities in tax enforcement discourage compliance and threaten the survival of small businesses already struggling with high operational costs.

The coalition therefore urged the Ghana Revenue Authority and relevant state institutions to adopt transparent, predictable and non-discriminatory tax practices. It also called for enhanced stakeholder engagement and education to help businesses better understand their tax obligations.

COMAC reaffirmed its commitment to working with government and tax authorities to promote a fair tax system that supports enterprise growth while ensuring the state mobilises adequate revenue for national development.
