The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has condemned disturbing social media commentary by individuals linked to the party following the recent Z-9 military helicopter crash.
Speaking during a visit to the national headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kodua criticized comments made by some TikTok users believed to be affiliated with the NPP, describing them as “unfortunate and condemnable” and unrepresentative of the party’s values. “It is important that, in times like these, we also show solidarity,” he said.
The NPP General Secretary emphasised that such remarks, particularly in situations involving loss of life, were unacceptable. “The NPP would never wish death on anyone, not even a worst enemy. These kinds of remarks are unhealthy for our democracy. Death is something that not even your worst enemy would wish upon you.”
He also noted that divisive and insensitive comments had emerged from both sides of the political divide, warning that politicizing national tragedies undermines Ghana’s democratic culture.
“Some are claiming that the NPP is behind these events, while others have gone so far as to say they expected more people to have died. Such remarks are dangerous and must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.”
