Victims of Adum PZ market fire in Kumasi have turned down food donations from Interior Minister and Asawase MP, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, expressing frustration over the lack of practical assistance.
The fire, which occurred on March 21, destroyed numerous shops and livelihoods, leaving traders desperate for meaningful support to rebuild.
Muntaka visited the scene with a truckload of supplies, including 1,500 bags of rice and 8,000 boxes of cooking oil.
However, the victims rejected the items, stating that food aid was not what they needed at this critical time.
In a video circulating online, traders were seen jeering at the Minister and his team, demanding efforts to restore the affected area instead.
The victims emphasised their primary need for the government to rebuild the market and ensure their businesses can recover.
They also expressed concerns about potential eviction from the land, urging authorities to prioritize their plight.
Muntaka, while confident in his approach, called for practical measures to address the recurring issue of market fires, which he noted have significant economic implications for the country.
He pledged to support the victims in getting back on their feet.
