Six Aggrey students arrested over Adisadel College assault

Six students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault and robbery of a final-year student of Adisadel College during an inter-schools sports festival in Cape Coast.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service Public Affairs Unit in Cape Coast on February 24, 2026, the suspects, all juveniles aged between 13 and 17 years, were handed over to police authorities by school officials to assist with investigations.

Police said the incident occurred on February 20, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m. during the final day of the inter-colleges sports festival held at the Cape Coast Stadium. The victim, identified as Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was reportedly leaving the stadium with two friends when he was confronted by the suspects.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers allegedly questioned the victim about his school before assaulting him shortly after learning he attended Adisadel College. While his two companions managed to escape, the victim was reportedly overpowered, kicked to the ground and beaten severely.

Police further disclosed that the suspects allegedly robbed the student of his iPhone 17 Pro Max, an amount of about GH¢1,400 in cash and his shoes during the attack.

The injured student was rushed to the stadium clinic and later referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital for further medical treatment. He was subsequently discharged on Sunday, February 22, after receiving care.

Medical assessment endorsed by a doctor indicated that the victim sustained serious injuries, including a fractured bone around the right eye, leaving him unable to open it properly, with concerns raised about damage to the eyeball.

Police added that eyewitnesses, including the victim’s friends who escaped the assault, have confirmed they can identify those involved, a development expected to aid ongoing investigations.

The Central Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the act of violence and assured the public that due process will be followed as the juvenile suspects face the full rigours of the law.
