President Mahama visits The Gambia and Senegal to strengthen regional ties

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Banjul, The Gambia, as part of a two-country visit to express gratitude to the leaders of The Gambia and Senegal for their participation in his presidential inauguration on January 7, 2025.

The visit underscores President Mahama’s commitment to fostering strong relations with Ghana’s West African neighbours.

The Gambian State House confirmed that President Mahama’s visit to Banjul is a one-day working engagement.

Upon his arrival at Banjul International Airport, he was welcomed by Gambian President Adama Barrow, who later hosted him at a state luncheon.

The two leaders engaged in a private meeting to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between their countries.

This diplomatic visit follows President Barrow’s attendance at President Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony in Accra earlier this month, highlighting the strong camaraderie between the two nations.

After concluding his engagements in Banjul, President Mahama will travel to Senegal, where he will meet with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. The Ghanaian leader is expected to return home from Dakar later today.
