The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects following a major narcotics operation that led to the seizure of 209 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be illegal drugs at Agona Swedru in the Central Region.
According to police sources, the operation was carried out at about 8:30 a.m. on February 24, 2026, by the Agona Swedru District Police Command along the Agona Asafo and Agona Kwesitsukwaa road as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking activities in the area.
Police intercepted a taxi cab with registration number GR 2932-26 driven by 28-year-old Godfred Acquah together with his alleged accomplice, Awudu Usman, aged 34.
A search conducted on the vehicle uncovered four nylon sacks containing 154 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs concealed in the taxi.
Investigators subsequently extended the search to the residence of Awudu Usman at Asisim, a suburb of Agona Swedru, where an additional 55 slabs of the suspected narcotic substance were discovered. The suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the items, bringing the total seizure to 209 slabs.
Police sources disclosed that the suspects allegedly offered GH¢100,000 to officers as a bribe in an attempt to avoid arrest, but the offer was firmly rejected.
The suspects were immediately taken into custody and are currently assisting with investigations.
Police say the two will be arraigned before court in the coming days as authorities intensify efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and related crimes within the district.
