Patrice Motsepe begins Second term as CAF President after Unopposed Re-election

Patrice Motsepe will begin his second term as CAF President after an unopposed re-election at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo.

At 63, the South African businessman first took office in 2021 after replacing Ahmad Ahmad amid FIFA corruption issues.

In his initial term, Motsepe restored CAF’s image by streamlining finances and securing major sponsorship deals, including with TotalEnergies.

Now, his renewed mandate focuses on enhancing African football’s global competitiveness through key initiatives such as upgrading stadium facilities, which currently force many nations to use neutral venues for international matches.

He is also committed to improving governance and financial transparency within CAF by enforcing stricter controls.

Moreover, Motsepe aims to boost women’s football by expanding grassroots initiatives and increasing competitive opportunities for female players.

Navigating the diverse interests of CAF’s regional blocs while maintaining strong ties with FIFA remains a critical challenge.

His established rapport with FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been a valuable asset in securing international support.

Overall, Motsepe’s second term presents a pivotal opportunity to drive transformative change in African football, combining business acumen with a reformist vision to elevate the sport on both a continental and global stage.
