The National Communications Authority has suspended the operations of 9 radio stations for various infractions. According to the regulator, the decision to suspend the operations of the 9 stations follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to remedy the violation of laws and regulations governing FM radio broadcasting in Ghana.
Six radio stations are said to have refused to comply with the regulatory amnesty by taking no action while three failed to remedy some of the breaches including the unauthorized use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations.
Some of the affected radio stations include, Wontumi Multimedia in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi as well as, Kpandai Star Community Radio, Unique Gateway Communication Limited, Dreams Ghana Media Limited, among others.
