Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has officially launched his campaign office and declared his intention to contest for the party’s flagbearership, calling for a total renewal of both the NPP and Ghana’s democratic leadership.
Addressing party faithful and the media at the launch, Agyepong described the moment as a “defining point” for the NPP and the nation, insisting that the party’s soul is in distress and in need of rescue.
“The soul of our party cries out for rescue. The spirit of our nation thirsts for renewal and transformation,” he said. “We need leadership with integrity, empathy, and a compelling vision that inspires the youth and rekindles faith in our constitutional democracy.”
According to Agyepong, the proud tradition of the NPP—built on values such as merit, honesty, and service—is under serious strain, with growing disillusionment among its grassroots and many abandoning the party in frustration.
He called for a return to the party’s founding ideals, urging delegates to resist monetization of internal elections and choose leadership based on principle and character rather than inducement. “Let us not sell our future for momentary monetary comfort,” he warned.
Agyepong sharply criticized the current state of governance in the country, pointing to a failing healthcare system, widening inequality, youth unemployment, and a drift from constitutional accountability.
Touching on the economy, he lamented Ghana’s stagnation in GDP per capita compared to peers like Singapore and South Korea, and called for a leadership that would reverse the systemic failures holding back national progress.
Introducing what he called the Triple-S Doctrine—Service, Sacrifice, and Selflessness—Agyepong pledged to offer a new vision for Ghana’s development, rooted in integrity and genuine public service. He highlighted his experience, long-standing service to the NPP, and his resilience through personal tragedy, referencing the 1982 murder of his father, Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, as formative in shaping his sense of justice and service.
“I come to you with clean hands, a clear mind, a compassionate heart, and the courage to lead Ghana’s renewal,” he said. “This is not about entitlement. It’s about character and love for the people.”
He concluded his address with a call for unity, warning against choices that would deepen internal divisions within the party, and made a heartfelt tribute to the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, whom he described as a close friend.
