Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, one of Ghana’s foremost medical institutions, is celebrating its centenary with a series of events designed to honour its legacy and the heroes who have contributed to its success over the past 100 years.
The hospital’s 100th anniversary celebration will officially launch the Legacy Project, aimed at transforming healthcare delivery in the country.
The Senior Specialist in Neurosurgery at Korle-Bu, Hadi Muhammad Abdullah, announced that the hospital would host a special event to mark the milestone at Alisa Hotel on the evening of November 29th at 5:00pm.
The event will recognize the contributions of doctors, nurses, and other key figures who have played vital roles in the hospital’s development.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, November 19, Mr Abdullah shared details of the Legacy Project and the hospital’s vision for the future. He explained, “The initiative would focus on leveraging cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and biomedical engineering, to drive healthcare advancements in the country.”
“We are looking to position Korle-Bu as a leading institution in medical innovation. The future of healthcare here will depend significantly on technology. I have seen firsthand in the UK how doctors have become inventors of the very equipment they use.
These innovations have greatly improved surgical outcomes and speed, and we are determined to make these advances a reality at Korle-Bu,” he said.
The Legacy Project, Dr Abdullah continued, comprises five key components, the first of which is an in-service training centre. This facility will support continuous professional education for nurses and doctors, ensuring that all staff at Korle-Bu are well-trained and up-to-date with the latest medical practices.
The second part of the project will focus on simulation-based training, with plans to establish a centre dedicated to teaching anatomy through dissection. The third component will integrate AI, robotics, and biomedical engineering to provide doctors with the tools needed to innovate and enhance patient care.
He stressed the importance of supporting the hospital’s efforts to ensure that future generations of medical professionals reach their full potential.
“Korle-Bu belongs to all of us, and with these initiatives, we aim to create a legacy of excellence in healthcare for Ghana and beyond,” he said.
