IGP Yohuno reshuffles top police command for efficiency

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has carried out a major reshuffle of the Ghana Police Service’s top command structure as part of efforts to strengthen leadership and improve operational efficiency.

The changes, which take immediate effect, involve the reassignment of several Commissioners of Police (COPs) and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCOPs) to key headquarters, regional and technical positions, according to an official posting released by the Police Administration.

At the Police Headquarters, COP Dr Sayibu Pabi Gariba has been moved from Director-General of Technical Services to Director-General of the National Arms and Ammunition Department (NAPD). COP Iddi Lansah Seidu, previously in charge of Welfare, now assumes responsibility as Director-General of Technical Services.

COP Dr Vance Baba Gariba has been reassigned from Director-General of Operations to head the Research and Planning Directorate, while COP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe moves from the Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to take charge of Operations. DCOP Darko Offei Lomotey has been transferred from Research and Planning to serve as Director-General of the PPSB, and DCOP Eric Ken Winful shifts from the NAPD to oversee Welfare.

The reshuffle also affects several regional and technical commands. DCOP Charles K. Adu has been appointed Eastern Regional Commander, while DCOP Isaac Asante moves from the Eastern Region to the National Headquarters. DCOP George B. Ohene Boadi takes over as Central Regional Commander, with DCOP George Ankomah reassigned from Central MTTD/Ashanti Region to head the Eastern North Region.

Additionally, DCOP Alex Kodjo Wowolo, who previously served as Director of ICT at the National Headquarters, has been appointed Commander of the Central MTTD/Ashanti Region.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, the IGP said the reshuffle forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening leadership, enhancing operational effectiveness and improving service delivery across the Ghana Police Service.
