The government has allocated GH₵110 million to kickstart the nationwide rollout of the Adwumawura Programme, a flagship initiative designed to tackle youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship across Ghana.
Announcing the funding during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 4, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, said the allocation was approved by the Ministry of Finance under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama.
“This financial backing reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment,” he said. “We are not just making promises; we are investing in the future of young Ghanaians and laying the foundation for a stronger, more innovative economy.”
Launched by President Mahama on April 28 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, the Adwumawura Programme seeks to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 youth-led businesses each year. Targeting Ghanaians aged 18 to 35, beneficiaries will receive comprehensive support, including entrepreneurship training, access to startup capital, provision of equipment, and long-term business mentorship.
Mr. Opare Addo stressed that the programme goes beyond job creation, focusing on building sustainable enterprises capable of driving national development and unlocking the potential of Ghana’s youthful population.
