The Government of Ghana has issued a strong advisory to all Ghanaian citizens residing in Lebanon, urging them to leave the country as soon as possible due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has expressed serious concerns about the potential danger posed to Ghanaian nationals amid Lebanon’s escalating crisis, prompting the call for immediate evacuation.
A press release issued Friday by the Ministry highlights the “rapidly unfolding crisis” in Lebanon and asks Ghanaians to evacuate per the next available commercial flight still operating out of Lebanon, to avoid any emergencies.
Given the ongoing war with Israel and the continued deterioration of the situation, the government asked all to heed the call.
“We encourage all Ghanaian nationals in Lebanon to take advantage of the limited available flights to immediately leave the country,” the statement from the Ministry read.
For Ghanaians who may face difficulties leaving due to a lack of travel documents, the government has provided avenues to facilitate their exit.
Ghanaian nationals without proper documentation have been advised to contact either the Embassy of Ghana in Cairo, Egypt, or the Ghana Honorary Consulate in Beirut, Lebanon. These offices have been instructed to assist Ghanaians in acquiring Emergency Travel Certificates, allowing them to depart the country safely.
The statement emphasised the urgency of this measure, noting that those who may require Exit Permits or other forms of assistance to facilitate their departure should reach out to the Embassy or Consulate immediately. Contact details for both diplomatic missions were provided in the release.
The Embassy of Ghana in Cairo can be reached via four different telephone numbers and an email address provided for any Ghanaian needing support.
Similarly, the Ghana Honorary Consulate in Beirut has made available two contact numbers and an email for assistance. Ghanaian citizens can also reach the consulate through its official Facebook page for quick communication and updates.
The Ministry’s press release did not elaborate on the specifics of the crisis but pointed to the overall “deteriorating situation” as the primary reason for urging Ghanaians to evacuate.
The government’s appeal comes at a time when many countries are issuing similar advisories to their citizens in Lebanon.
