The Securities and Exchanges Commission of Ghana has started its 2025 financial literacy education from the Volta region. The program themed “ understanding the role of SEC in the capital market “ is aimed at providing financial literacy and explaining the role of SEC to the general public.
The event brought together diverse groups of people including students from selected senior high schools, government officials, retail investors, entrepreneurs among others.
Speaking at the program, the Acting Director General of SEC Dr James Klutse Avedzi explained that, the investor education is a flagship program aimed at explaining the role of SEC as security industry player or regulator.
He further explained that understanding investment and its benefits as early as possible will help in developing in terms of capital market.
“I think it’s good that students in the senior high schools understand and know about investment and it’s benefits as early as possible which will help in development in terms of capital market so as to raise more money for the business to grow and that will also lead to the development of the entire country “.
He also explained that it’s an opportunity for the retail investors and all adults to benefit and know the difference in equity shares and fixed income
“It’s an opportunity for the retail investors, covering all adults including those in the security sector, teachers, market women in the Volta region to know the various investment products that are available in Ghana. It will enable them to decide if they want to go for equity shares or fixed incomes”.
He disclosed that the program will be rolled out in 4 regions. From the Volta region, to greater Accra, Bono and Eastern regions and cautioned the public against scams and Ponzi Schemes.
