Nine community police assistants at the Ajumako Bisease Police Station have been widely praised for their role in the successful arrest of a prison escapee from the Osamkrom Prison Camp, following a three-day intensive manhunt.
The arrest, which has attracted national attention, was led by a police inspector who serves as the station officer and operations commander at Ajumako Bisease. Working closely with the nine community police assistants, the team pursued the escaped inmate relentlessly, despite difficult conditions and sleepless nights.
According to a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), video and photographic evidence of the operation was broadcast on several television and radio stations across the country, including UTV and GHOne TV. The footage highlighted the determination and professionalism displayed by the officers during the search and eventual apprehension of the escapee.
The petition, presented by the Bisease Guardian Angels Community Advocacy Group, commended the officers for their consistent dedication to maintaining peace and security in the Bisease community. It further called for special recognition of the nine community police assistants and the supervising inspector for their exceptional service.
The advocacy group is appealing to the IGP, the Presidency, the YEA, and relevant ministers to consider the nine community police assistants for recruitment into the Ghana Police Service through a special recommendation under the ongoing general police recruitment exercise.
Community members have also lauded the officers, describing their actions as a clear demonstration of the importance of community policing in strengthening national security and supporting formal law enforcement efforts.
The successful operation is being seen as a strong example of collaboration between professional police officers and trained community assistants in safeguarding lives and property.
