CAVB president opens 2026 African women’s volleyball championship

The President of the Confederation of African Volleyball, Bouchra Hajij, has officially declared open the 2026 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship in Cairo, marking the start of one of the continent’s premier club competitions.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hajij described the occasion as both an honour and a celebration of African unity through sport. She welcomed delegations from across the continent, noting that their participation reflects a shared commitment to excellence and the unifying power of volleyball.

“This championship is not merely a sporting event, but a platform for exchange, fraternity and unity among African nations,” she said, emphasizing the role of sports in promoting respect, discipline and solidarity.

Hajij also expressed appreciation to Egypt for hosting the tournament, praising the country’s continued role as a hub for major continental sporting events. She commended the Egyptian Volleyball Federation and partners for their efforts in organizing the competition.

Special recognition was given to Al Ahly Sporting Club, the host club for this year’s edition, for its hospitality and high standards in delivering the event.

Addressing the players, Hajij described them as role models and ambassadors of their respective nations, urging them to compete with integrity and uphold the principles of fair play.

The championship is expected to deliver thrilling matches and memorable moments as top women’s volleyball clubs from across Africa battle for continental glory.
