Fire damages excavator during road works at Ajumako Amia

An excavator working on a road construction project at Ajumako Amia in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region has been partially damaged by fire.

The incident occurred while the machine was engaged in road grading activities close to a church as part of the ongoing expansion works on the Ajumako–Agona Swedru road.

Personnel from the Ajumako District Fire Station quickly responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene to contain the blaze. The firefighting team, led by DO2 Kingsley Yeboah, managed to bring the fire under control before it could completely destroy the equipment.

According to the fire service, the excavator owned by a company undertaking the road project sustained only partial damage due to the timely intervention of firefighters. No injuries or casualties were recorded in the incident.

Speaking to Channel 247 News, DO2 Kingsley Yeboah commended his team for their swift response, noting that their efforts prevented a more serious situation and saved the heavy-duty machine from total destruction.

Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The incident comes days after another fire outbreak in the district that led to the complete destruction of the Ajumako Ocheso Police Station on March 10, 2026, an emergency also handled by the same fire command team.
