The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, has officially commenced the construction of state-of-the-art cardiology centres in three major teaching hospitals across the country.
The announcement was made by Felix Kwakye Ofosu in a post on X, where he disclosed that the fund is fully operational and actively investing in critical healthcare infrastructure.
According to him, beyond providing financial assistance to patients suffering from non-communicable diseases who struggle to meet the high cost of treatment, the initiative is also focused on strengthening Ghana’s capacity to manage such conditions locally.
The ongoing projects are situated at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital.
When completed, the cardiology centres will be equipped with modern catheterization laboratories, fully fitted operating theatres, intensive care units, consulting rooms, pharmacies, and dedicated oxygen plants. The facilities are expected to significantly enhance the diagnosis and treatment of heart-related conditions and other non-communicable diseases.
Images shared alongside the announcement showed the architectural design of the centres as well as the current level of progress at the various construction sites.
The Mahama Cares initiative is part of broader efforts to improve access to specialized healthcare services in Ghana and reduce the burden on patients who often travel abroad for advanced cardiac treatment.
