The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has announced the arrest of four individuals in connection with a deadly robbery that occurred in Kumasi earlier this month.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi, the IGP disclosed that the incident took place on February 10, 2026, at Bohyen. The attack resulted in the shooting of a man and the theft of his Toyota Hilux vehicle.
The victim, later identified as Mr Andrews Amankwa, was rushed to hospital following the incident but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
According to the IGP, swift investigations led to the identification and arrest of a key suspect believed to be the leader of the robbery syndicate. The suspect reportedly sustained gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with police officers and later died.
Another suspect, Akwasi Manu, was arrested on February 18, 2026. Police say he was found with a vehicle suspected to be linked to the robbery operation. He was subsequently arraigned before Circuit Court 2 on February 20, 2026, on charges of possessing stolen property. The court remanded him into police custody pending his next appearance.
The Police Service indicated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional members of the criminal network. Investigators believe the group typically surveils their targets before carrying out planned attacks.
Reaffirming the Service’s resolve to combat violent crime, the IGP stressed that law enforcement will continue to pursue and dismantle criminal syndicates operating in the country.
