The Member of Parliament for Efutu and Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called for unity, discipline and renewed commitment within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Addressing party executives, delegates and supporters at a stakeholders’ meeting at his residence in Efutu, Hon. Afenyo-Markin cautioned against conditional loyalty and factionalism, stressing that personal interests must not be allowed to undermine the collective strength of the party.
He noted that the engagement formed part of efforts to promote internal cohesion, implement party policies and strengthen collaboration between party leadership and the grassroots as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
The meeting brought together electoral area coordinators, polling station executives, community leaders, committee members and assembly members, providing a platform to review progress on the party’s 2028 Action Plan and reaffirm support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flag bearer.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that resilience, sacrifice and hard work were essential for rebuilding the party, urging members to exercise restraint in public commentary and focus on cooperation and disciplined campaigning.
Reflecting on the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, the Minority Leader stated that the NPP’s return to power would depend on unity rather than slogans, describing the grassroots as the backbone of the party’s political machinery.
He further called on party members to rally behind Dr. Bawumia and work collectively to strengthen the party’s structures, while holding the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) accountable for its stewardship of national affairs ahead of the 2028 polls.
