Asantehene destools Gyasehene of Sabronum, two other Chiefs over galamsey

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled the Gyasehene of Sabronum, Nana Gyau Baffour Atuonin and two other chiefs for aiding and engaging in illegal mining activities in the area.

This means the chiefs have been stripped of their titles and responsibilities.

This follows agitations by youth and residents of the area and a subsequent petition to the Asanteman Traditional Council on the continuous destruction of farmlands and water bodies due to the activities of illegal miners.

The Asantehene on Monday summoned Gyasehene, Akyeamehene and the Baamuhene to the Manhyia Palace for their involvement in illegal mining activities in the area.

The Chiefs are Gyasehene of Sabronum, Nana Gyau Baffour Atuonin, Akyeameahene, Nana Osei Kwadwo and Baamuhene, Nana Tabiri Gyansah.

He referred to a report by the National Bureau of Investigation presented to him after he ordered an investigation into illegal mining activities within Sabronum.

He warned of causing the arrest of the chiefs if they continued to engage in such activities.

Last week, angry youth of Sabronum expressed disappointment after the Chiefs failed to present their concerns on illegal mining when they appeared before the Asanteman Traditional Council.

A new person has been nominated and selected to take the reins of the affairs of the Sabronum community.

The Asantehene is cracking the whip on his chiefs after his repeated warnings against traditional rulers within the Asante Kingdom for aiding or engaging in illegal mining activities.
